Artprize 2012
"Michigan Rising"
This 5' x 7' oil painting was the third and last in my "Artprize Rocks" series. (I was getting the reputation of being "the rock guy").
It is a surreal approach to what I felt was the geological beginnings of my home state of Michigan. the influence of Salvadore Dali is obvious; especially in the realistic approach to subjects, and the ignoring of gravitational pull on the thin sheet of water covering the rocks. Both rocks are Petoskey stones, which themselves are fossils, and represent both the upper and lower peninsulas emerging after the ice age. The small submerged rock must be Toledo Ohio?
The painting took first place at the Oliver Art Exhibition in Frankfort Michigan. (The price goes up!) Fun huh?
